Standards of accommodation vary quite considerably, particularly in the seaside resorts. Hotels are regulated in Turkey and classified into five, star rating bands, plus an additional 'Special Class' rating that applies to hotels not falling within the regular classification system.
With the exception of hotels in Istanbul, Ankara and some hotels in the larger beach resorts, most hotels in Turkey offer a standard of accommodation one star lower than equivalent international star ratings.
Many resort hotels deal directly with European tour operators, which means that they are in some cases only available during the summer season between April and
October. In addition, these hotels are often not available for independent travelers
or for bookings of less than 7 days duration.
